We all have an inner calling to become our best. For some of us, this call is a loud cry, while for others it is just a whisper. The state we are in and the beliefs that support it, will develop or inhibit this ability to constantly grow, to set new standards of evolution.

At the organizational level, financial resources are invested every year to increase the motivation of employees to become better and better, because this is the key to success in the business specific to our time.

For a true leader, whatever his place in the professional hierarchy, raising his standards means a continuous process, a journey in which every day there is potential to increase abilities, skills and talents. It involves the ability and motivation to set goals and achieve them because that gives meaning and purpose to his individual existence, and not to compete with others.

Viktor Frankl, PhD in neurology and philosophy – author of “Man’s Search for Meaning” – was an extremely gifted psychiatrist, professor of neurology and psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Vienna. He spent 3 years in Nazi concentration camps and noticed that although all the prisoners were subject to the same inhumane conditions, some of them still managed to survive. His interpretation was that personal attitude is the basis of survival, it can never be controlled by anyone else, representing the strongest personal resource.

Therefore, identifying the skills that support us the most today – is very important, and it is equally important to identify those skills / competencies / abilities that can be improved to reach a higher level of development.

Here are some questions that will help you identify these things, as you go through different stages of development:

  • How do I manage in this “journey” / in this professional path?
  • How do I feel in this “journey”?
  • Am I satisfied with the way I am now?
  • Do I take every step at a time, on this journey?
  • Am I motivated to be as good as I can be?

Remember that you are in an evolutionary process, do not be discouraged by the fact that you failed to achieve everything you set out to do. Motivate to be the best version of yourself and you’ll see that success will not be long in coming.
